Helping Others

Overseas...As well as helping people in our own city, we run and support a number of projects across the world.

  // GHANA   back to top

Ghana

One of the most exciting Christian Centre projects is called The King’s Village and is currently developing in Northern Ghana. Primarily funded and overseen by the Christian Centre, the project is developing a school, a medical centre, a vocational training centre and also providing clean water for some of Ghana’s most disadvantaged people.

Currently the school has around 120 pupils (each sponsored by Christian Centre members) and work is well underway in developing the first phase of the medical facilities.

At the end of last year, the Christian Centre partnered with national charity St Dunstan's (which works with ex-servicemen and women who are blind) and the British Army, in a water and sanitation programme. The pilot project provided water and latrines to three local villages - together with community hygeine training. The project received national and regional press coverage and is set to expand.

  // UGANDA   back to top

Three Christian Centre members currently work with aid-agency Medair in Uganda to provide a range of programmes in refugee camps including providing healthcare, clean water and support for children. One of these members, Fraser Bell, leads the work as Country Director for Medair.

  // BELARUS   back to top

Belarus

On behalf of the Lord Mayor of Nottingham the Christian Centre runs the ‘Lord Mayor’s Minsk Appeal’ – which provides support to the city of Minsk in Belarus, which was highly affected by the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster. Thanks to fundraising last year, a playground worth around £40,000 was able to be installed at an orphanage in the city where we have previously undertaken a large amount of refurbishment.

  // OTHER NATIONS   back to top

We also have humanitarian workers and projects running in Colombia, Kenya, Tanzania, Romania.
