Parent and Toddlers

We currently have two parent and toddler groups called “Company” that meet during term time, on a Monday morning in Beeston (Beeston Youth and Community Centre, West End) and on Thursday morning in St Ann’s (Bluebell Hill Primary School, Gordon Road). As well as providing a place to meet with others, the Company groups provide practical parenting tips. The St Ann’s group is also developing a home visiting service – providing support in parents' homes.

  // HOMELESS    back to top

Working with other Nottingham churches, we run a project to help Nottingham’s homeless community. The service currently runs from a church hall in the city on three nights a week – providing hot food, company and clothes.

// DRUG MENTORING    back to top

The Christian Centre is currently developing, with a small number of other key partners, a drug mentoring project – working with some of the most vulnerable drug users in the city to see permanent freedom and rehabilitation achieved. The project, which will see three full time workers as well as a part-time administrator, is being funded by Nottingham’s DAAT (Drug and Alcohol Action Team). It will be launched later this year.

// JERICHO ROAD    back to top

A ground-breaking project, run in partnership with St Andrew’s Church (Mansfield Road) is Jericho Road – reaching out to Nottingham’s street prostitutes with the goal of helping the women to break out of prostitution. The project undertakes street outreaches three times a week, where the women are provided with food, drinks and the opportunity to chat. A prison visiting team will meet the women as they serve sentences and helps with their resettlement on their release. Many of the women visit the project’s base, where further help can be offered to aid the women in making positive lifestyle changes.

// TEENAGERS AT RISK    back to top

The Nottingham Nightstop project is being run by the Christian Centre in partnership with Nottinghamshire YMCA and Trent Vineyard. The project will provide emergency accommodation, in the homes of host families, to young people who are at risk of becoming homeless. Two development workers have been recruited to spearhead the launch of the project which is due to ‘go live’ in the coming months.

// OPERATION RUDOLPH    back to top

Operation Rudolph is a Christmas project providing hampers to disadvantaged families and individuals in Nottingham. Since its launch in 2002, around £250,000 worth of stock has been distributed and thousands of families and individuals helped. Last Christmas (2005) 1000 hampers were distributed. Thanks to corporate donations and the ability to bulk buy, the value of each of the hampers given away was around £100. We work with Nottingham City Council, women’s hostels, local schools and other charities to identify the recipients.

// CARE IN SCHOOLS    back to top

Our “Pastoral Care Project” is run in partnership with Nottinghamshire YMCA, providing a full time worker in a local school to look after the pastoral needs of pupils, providing practical and emotional support. The worker deals with a range of issues including family breakdown, bullying and bereavement. We would like to extend this project into other schools.

// PREGNANCY CRISIS    back to top

The Christian Centre is a strong supporter of Nottingham's Pregnancy Crisis Centre, which aims to provide help, support and space to make an informed decision to women facing an unplanned pregnancy. A number of the project's key workers are part of the Church.

// PRISON VISITING    back to top

The Christian Centre has a team which regularly visits Nottingham Prison to work with the Chaplain Service. The group chats to inmates and also takes special services.

// COMMUNITY ACTION    back to top

Our “Saturday Serving” teams undertake practical work in disadvantaged areas in Nottingham - with volunteers undertaking gardening and decorating jobs for those in need.

// CHARITY SHOPS    back to top

Charity Shops

We run a number of charity stores in the city called “Second Chance”, which provide an excellent source of inexpensive clothes, books, household goods and bric-a-brac. Profits from the shops help to fund our community work.
